Lemon Buttercream Lightweight Styling Curl Cream — Lemon, Marshmallow Root & Flaxseed | Ecoslay

Perfect for Curls & Waves

Lemon Buttercream is Ecoslay’s lightweight curl styling cream — a soft formula that defines curls, fights frizz, and moisturizes without weighing hair down. Crafted with marshmallow root and flaxseed extract, plus a nine-herb botanical blend (chamomile, nettle, peppermint, horsetail, sage, yucca, melissa, and slippery elm), it delivers softly defined, bouncy curls with a light-to-medium hold and a signature lemon-vanilla fragrance that reviewers describe as “lemon cake.” Works on damp or dry hair. Particularly beloved by fine-haired and low-porosity curl types who find heavier creams too much. Suitable for all curl patterns from wavy (2a) to coily (4c).

What Lemon Buttercream Does For Your Curls:

Lemon Buttercream fills the gap between a leave-in conditioner and a firm-hold gel — it provides definition and moisture without the heavy hold of a traditional curl cream. The marshmallow root delivers extraordinary slip and frizz reduction; the flaxseed extract defines the curl pattern with a light flexible hold; and the nine-herb botanical blend nourishes the scalp and strengthens strands while styling.

Lemon Buttercream performs brilliantly as a standalone styler on fine and low-porosity hair where heavier products can cause buildup or flatness. For coily and kinky types or those wanting more hold, it works beautifully as a cream base before applying Orange Marmalade or Jello Shot gel on top. It also excels as a day-2 and day-3 refresh cream — a small amount scrunched into misted hair revives definition without full reapplication.

  • Defines curls with a light-to-medium hold — soft and bouncy, not stiff or crunchy
  • Moisturizes deeply without weighing fine or low-porosity hair down
  • Fights frizz and flyaways with marshmallow root and flaxseed
  • Nine-herb botanical blend nourishes the scalp while you style
  • Works on damp hair for definition and on dry hair for day-2+ frizz refresh
  • Signature lemon-vanilla “lemon cake” scent from real lemon peel oil and vanilla fruit oil
  • Helps strengthen hair follicles and improve shine
  • Safe for color-treated, relaxer-transitioning, and heat-styled hair
  • Kid-friendly formula — gentle enough for toddler curls
  • No silicones, no parabens, no harsh hold polymers
  • Vegan and cruelty-free

Frequently Asked Questions

Lemon Buttercream is Ecoslay’s lightweight styling curl cream that defines curls, fights frizz, and moisturizes without weighing hair down. Crafted with marshmallow root, flaxseed extract, and a nine-herb botanical blend, it delivers softly defined, bouncy curls with a light-to-medium hold and a signature lemon-vanilla fragrance. It works on damp hair for wash-day styling and on dry hair for day-2 refresh. Best for fine, low-porosity, and wavy-to-curly hair types.

Lemon Buttercream smells like lemon cake — a warm, sweet citrus fragrance created by real lemon peel oil and vanilla fruit oil. The combination of citrus and vanilla creates a scent that reviewers consistently describe as “lemon dessert,” “lemon cake,” and “lemon buttercream frosting.” The fragrance softens as hair dries and is not overpowering. Both oils are genuine botanical essential oils, not synthetic fragrance.

Yes — fine and low-porosity hair types are among the most enthusiastic reviewers of Lemon Buttercream. Its lightweight formula provides definition and moisture without the heaviness or buildup that traditional curl creams cause on fine or low-porosity hair. Apply a small amount (dime-sized) to soaking wet hair. Lemon Buttercream can serve as both a moisturizer and styler for fine and low-porosity types.

Lemon Buttercream works on all curl patterns from wavy (2a, 2b, 2c) through curly (3a, 3b, 3c) to coily (4a, 4b) and kinky (4c). It is most popular with wavy, curly, and fine-haired types who find heavier creams too heavy. For coily and kinky hair wanting more hold, Lemon Buttercream works beautifully as a moisture base layer with Orange Marmalade or Jello Shot gel applied over the top.

Lemon Buttercream is primarily a lightweight styling cream, but it works effectively as a leave-in for fine and low-porosity hair types. On damp or wet hair, it can serve as both moisturizer and styler in one step without a separate leave-in underneath. For coily and kinky hair, or those wanting more moisture, use it over Rice Pudding leave-in as a styling layer.

Yes. Lemon Buttercream works on dry hair for day-2 and day-3 refresh. Mist dry hair lightly with water, apply a small fingertip-sized amount to areas with frizz or lost definition, scrunch gently upward, and allow to re-dry. This technique revives definition without a full wash and works particularly well for wavy and fine-haired types.

Start with a small amount — a dime-sized portion for fine or short hair; a nickel-to-quarter-sized amount for medium length; a quarter-to-50-cent-sized amount for thick or long hair. A little goes a long way with this formula. Over-applying can cause residue on fine hair. Start with less than you think you need, distribute evenly, and add more if required.

Yes. Lemon Buttercream contains no sulfates or harsh chemicals that strip color. Its gentle, plant-based formula is safe for color-treated, relaxer-transitioning, and heat-styled hair. The flaxseed and marshmallow root ingredients are conditioning and protective for chemically processed hair.

Yes. Lemon Buttercream is gentle enough for children’s curly hair. The formula contains no harsh chemicals, no synthetic fragrances, and no silicones. Many parents use it as a standalone styling cream for toddler and school-age curls. The lemon-vanilla scent is widely loved by kids.

The formula is identical across all sizes. The 8oz pouch is Ecoslay’s signature eco-friendly packaging with significantly less plastic than a bottle. The 8oz Pouch + Jar includes a refillable glass mason jar so you can decant from the pouch, reducing waste further. The 2oz mini is TSA-compliant for travel.

Lemon Buttercream is handmade in small batches in Atlanta, Georgia by the Ecoslay team.  The lemon, marshmallow root, and flaxseed are sourced through Ecoslay’s Farm-to-Pouch partnership with Metro Atlanta farms. Ecoslay is a Black-owned, woman-founded company.

This product is mildly moisturizing but it does sink into my hair strands which is nice.

Works for Low Porosity Like a Dream

I waited a long time to try Buttercream styling cream because it’s suggested for coils, however, this has been a Godsend for my low porosity curly hair! I have fine curls but a LOT of hair and nothing refreshes or holds my curls better after a wash, not to mention it smells like a dream. This is a staple in my routine, if not my curls fall flat.

    Soft, fluffy waves & curls!

I have fine-textured & volume-challenged but very thirsty waves & curls that easily get dried out. So getting enough moisture without badly weighing down my hair can be difficult. Results pictured here are 2nd day refresh after wash-day styling with Lemon Buttercream followed by Cake brand gel-to-foam styler (both products smell like lemon cake & work well together). My refresh was with water, a tiny bit of Lemon Buttercream glazed/gently scrunched in, and briefly diffusing. This routine doesn't give me as much longevity as with stronger-hold stylers, but when I want 2-3 days of soft, fluffy curls, I reach for the Lemon Buttercream!
